Artist Hong Yu Hao is good at expressing the experience of gazing at group movements in daily life space by developing images both virtual and real. The street scene here was recorded while he walked through a Wanhua arcade. Then he used 3D scanning technology to convert the image into a “point cloud” that could represent things by their position in three-dimensional space. He then recompiled the point cloud into dynamic images and created the “Wanderland” series. Hong believes that such arcades are a unique feature of the Taiwanese architectural landscape, and that Wanhua’s arcades are a space where pedestrians, business, and the homeless coexist. In Wanderland – 1, the fine point clouds show a Wanhua arcade where public and private areas coexist. Hung uses a single forward perspective to make the arcade into a long, narrow living space that carries people’s memories and emotions. It seems like home yet not like home at the same time.
