When the artist Lo Wen-Hsin was walking in a dark mountain forest at night, and her lamplight shone on the pine needles, the flickering, refracted light seemed to make the trees come alive, so she painted this scene in Light Rays. She used technical pens, crayons, pencils and other media to express the feeling of a “quasi-landscape” or “being in a different place.” Through layered brushstrokes and rubbing and wiping methods, the shapes of the trees were blurred. In this work, the pine needles seem to be suspended in air, like falling fireworks, splashing water, or whorls of smoke. Lo Wen-Hsin deliberately enlarged some of the pine needles in the picture to adjust the proportions of the composition, and then used a diagonal line to cut contrasting areas, one lighter, one darker, to heighten the drama and make the work full of tension. It shows the traces of light when evening falls.
