The painter Cezanne once said, “The landscape thinks itself in me, and I am its consciousness.” For Lo Wen-Hsin, artistic creation consists of resonating with this consciousness, reflecting the real present or revealing the past, transcending time, and possessing a new vision. She recorded her experience of living in the quiet mountains and forests of Taiwan, using technical pen, crayon, charcoal, and pencil to show the play of wind, clouds, light, and shadows in the woods, which appear sometimes hazy, sometimes clear, in nature’s dreamlike time and space. She also uses various techniques such as engraving and hatching. Fine, repeated lines, blurring, the creation of bright gradients and depth of field effects, the highlighting of flowing lines—all these bring out a sense of the air moving through the sparsely populated forest, making the forms more dynamic.
