作品賞析
The artist Lin Shih-Yung often uses “the family” as the main theme of his creations. As for bananas, he felt that their special mode of reproduction, in which “the mother plant directly gives birth to the young plants,” were rather similar to that of human families, so he created the image of the “banana man” as a metaphor for himself and incorporated it into his works. This painting is composed of sixteen frames. The different poses of the banana-headed figure in each frame were inspired by the process of the artist building his own house. Building a house requires a lot of labor and repeated relaying and carrying materials—there is a lot of give-and-take, just as in one’s relationship with one’s family. However, these relationships do not consist of one-way transmission, but of two-way interactions, and their habitual practice will leave an imprint on the body. If the viewer “reads” the frames as if they were frames in a motion picture, the impression of continuous motion is produced: the banana-headed figure first receives a board, completes various actions with it, and hands it to the next figure, who presumably repeats the cycle.
