To recreate moments of his childhood, LIN Shih-Yung’s works often depict a boy integrated with the form of a banana, which LIN Shih-Yung has described as the “Banana Man.” Super-realist approaches were used in order to create works that convey dark and dismal tones as well as metaphorical lessons. After Taking-2 is a dark and moody composition depicting a boy with a banana head. The boy is kneeling on the ground with a bowl of rice by his side while holding a flavored boiled egg in his chopsticks as though he’s conducting a memorial rite for a loved one. LIN Shih-Yung hopes to use this work to recreate his childhood memory, observing like a detached bystander to dissect his family history and communicate with the difficult memories he had experienced.
