LIN Shih-Yung’s Banana People series is based upon parent-children relationships and displays depressing childhood memories. Under Shuiyuan-7 is based upon the village that the artist grew up in during childhood. The trees, buildings, and land symbolize the intimate relationship between food production and natural cycles. The artwork also shows a Banana mother holding a basket of eggs and handing one of them to her children who are shown holding chopsticks in order to get the egg into their bowl, creating an image that serves as a metaphor for the mutual tie of nourishing and acceptance. LIN Shih-Yung uses powerful symbols and visual language to illustrate complex family ties of childrearing and dependence in an attempt to convey the heavy psychological weight presented by life.
