LIN Shih-Yung’s Banana People series is based upon parent-children relationships and displays depressing childhood memories. Shuiyuan-1 depicts a background based upon the village that the artist grew up in during childhood. A Banana person in a dress is shown trying to complete a pullup, while an unfinished bowl of supper and utensils are placed nonchalantly on the dirty concrete floor. LIN Shih-Yung uses powerful symbols and visual language to illustrate complex family ties of childrearing and dependence in an attempt to convey the heavy psychological weight presented by life.
