Yeh Tsai-Wei majored in ink painting and Eastern gouache as a student, but after she was exposed to shadow puppetry in a folk art course, she became interested in the art of paper-cutting. Identifying herself as “the saw girl,” she began to create paper sculptures. Besides doing finely detailed paintings, which emphasize performance, she also explores the relationship between art and life through her paper-cutting art, which is more relaxed and childlike. Yeh produced Window Flowers after communicating with various netizens. She invited her correspondents to send pictures of window scenes that they often see. Then, based on her exchanges with these correspondents, she combined elements from their stories, photos, and feelings in 15 square cutouts, which she sent back to her correspondents to paste on their windows. Window Flowers presents these imagined window scenes, superimposed on the photos which show the actual scenes. They reflect the multiple meanings passed through interpersonal communication and different places in time.
