A traditional Taiwanese wedding is to hold a Liu Shui xi (Outdoor party), a roadside banquet serves endlessly like a flowing river. YEH Tsai-Wei made this glue color painting named Wedding Party, to tell a story about a wedding held on a stormy day, the pouring rain literally making it a river banquet. The lobsters served swim freely back to the ocean, but in an empty, dead state; humans were enjoying these lobster dishes but now the lobsters have dominance over the rafting helpless human. It’s a metaphor of socialization forcing people to grow. YEH Tsai-Wei speaks to the contradiction in our lives in a humorous tone, she makes everything seem amazing, and charming, but there’s always something wrong in it, and adapting to these discomforts is part of life.
