Pai Mu-Chun is an artist who is very adept with the medium of oil painting. Although he uses realistic techniques, his special compositional ideas and clever use of the palette make his works seem surrealistic. His print, Song of Rotating Wood, depicts an amusement park using black, white, and gray tones. However, the old-fashioned tile floor, crumbling carousel, and dilapidated railing all show that this amusement park has gradually been forgotten. The blue and green color blocks emerging out of thin air in the picture add to the broken and blurred atmosphere. Through this work, Pai Mu-Chun wants to express the conflict and the contradictions between manmade things and nature. Although this is not the artist’s usual medium of oil, but rather a print, the rich layering and psychedelic visual effects reflect the artist’s unique surreal style and creative vocabulary.
