作品賞析
The artist Yen Chun excels at presenting the texture and delicacy of layered and brushed-on oils, and expressing the abstract ideas through ultra-realistic concrete objects. His work, The End of March, belongs to Yen’s “One Thousandth of a Landscape” series and includes two opposing oil paintings depicting aloe flowers, which bloom at the end of March. The two panels show the same stalk of blooms: in the upper half of the right panel, the flowers are in full bloom; in the lower half of the left panel, they have begun to wilt. Yen Chun presents the plant in full, almost microscopic detail, whether it is growing under sunlight or withering due to lack of water. For him, such a finely detailed and microscopic depiction is not only for the purpose of recording the present state of a plant, but also to bring out indirectly the changes and events in the plant’s surrounding environment, and thereby to lead the viewer into the flow of nature’s time.
