HSIAO Pei-I uses Fitzcarraldo to discuss the issue of environmental changes. The slow destructions in daily life are difficult to detect, but catastrophic pictures can easily draw people's attention. As a result, most people think destructions only happen in an instant. However, HSIAO Pei-I's work wants to convey that destructions are silent, universal, and ubiquitous. All warnings are hidden under the glittering gold foils. The broken old ship on the shore is painted with strange colors, the conflict points out the imbalance between the present and the past. HSIAO Pei-I uses allegorical pictures to express the imbalanced state of humans and the environment.
