HSIAO Pei-I tries to capture the absurd little things in the ecology. When human behaviors affect nature, spectacle-like landscapes would appear. In Animal Volcano V, she uses bright gold and silver foils as background. A large number of dead animals are displayed. They are stacked into a large volcano, and a few clouds of smoke emerge from the top, creating an eccentric scenery. HSIAO Pei believes that these created visions, although seemingly absurd, may eventually become facts. They are also a tacit understanding of apocalypse. Animal volcanoes can be just ridiculous imaginations, but they can also constitute another new ecology and landscape.
