HSIEH Mu-Chi uses painting as a medium to intervene in the process of painting through different forms and fields, attempting to discuss the issue of identity of the painter. In the work, Painting Act 006-Three Primary Colors, a picture of a circular composition is filled with flows of paint and geometric structures. The crowded, chaotic canvas space is interspersed with landscape images of trees and distant mountains. Several soldiers outlined only by lines are wearing military uniforms and, as if they are holding a brush, carrying out some unknown mission. HSIEH Mu-Chi believes that painting has always been a labor-intensive action, repeating a great deal of smearing and drawing to achieve the communication and transmission of ideas. With a narrative language that combines abstract, figurative landscapes and images, he tries to escape the limitations of the canvas space and sees painting as an investigative process for expressing thought behavior.
