HUNG Shih-Tsung uses displacement and post-editing as the central concepts of his photographic works. Forced Landing: Waiao (2008)-001 is a photograph of a coastal scene of Waiao in Yilan. The flat beach is lapped by the white, frothy waves, while the pale silhouette of Turtle Island sits on the horizon. The midday sun is reflected by the surface of the ocean. The composition also includes an oddly shaped driftwood levitating in mid-air, with the camera angle providing a unique set of characteristics transforming the driftwood from a passive material abandoned at the beach to an actively descending subject of the photograph. HUNG Shih-Tsung uses this work to convey the insecurities of urban life, and as a refuge of his inner desires.
