CHEN Yi-Ru’s creations come from fragments of everyday life and observations of an actual, intimate, yet distant pieces of routine activities. “One Hundred Years Old” focuses on senior citizens exercising in the park every morning. These old folks face the sun, extending their limbs to stretch out their aged, atrophying muscles but also their lifespans. CHEN Yi-Ru often observes these old people and secretly hopes that they can live to one hundred. The composition is a montage of color blocks generated by deconstructing, homogenizing, and piecing back actual color patches from real life, as though the artist picked up fragments from every day activities and recombined them with her personal life.
