CHEN Yi-Ru’s Amoeba 1812 Overture Finale is inspired by Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture that celebrates the defeat of Napoleon’s Grand Armee by the Russian army led by General Kutuzov which secured Russian victory in the war against France. CHEN Yi-Ru adopted the background of the overture as the blueprint as well as the flexible and tough Amoeba as a metaphor of the strong survival skills of youths who are ridiculed by many as the strawberry generation. The work is divided into 3 panels of illustrations created using acrylic paint and markers for outlining and generating decorative elements. Brilliantly colored amoebas represent the 3 aspects of invasion, resistance, and peace, communicating the young generation’s vigor and ability to adapt to the environment.
