LIAO Zen-Ping’s artworks primarily focus on landscapes witnessed during everyday life or his travels, and are often inspired by photography that captured landscapes and images that could not be easily remembered. Wuling is based on a landscape photograph taken while moving. Different proportions, colors, and structures were assembled to create a seemingly normal landscape. The largely blank areas of the composition form the sky, while the overlapping lands create a gentle and rustic horizon, LIAO Zen-Ping deliberately condenses and re-enacts these normal-looking landscapes, inviting viewers to take another look and discover new information that could be unearthed through the process as he quietly probes the viewer’s memories.
