LIAO Cheng-Ping uses photographs acquired during his trips as the material for his works. Whenever he saw a new yet familiar scene, he would depict it in drawing. In Window-6, the artist has created a landscape painting based upon a landscape photograph captured in one such trip. The painting is deliberately scaled down and placed in the center and surrounded with a part of the picture that has been grossly enlarged. LIAO Cheng-Ping has also included the four standard inks, grayscale tones, and instruments used to compare photograph’s color levels used in photo-processing. After destructuring the photograph, LIAO Cheng-Ping gave individual elements new encoding formats to inspect different landscapes and identify an appropriate distance and relationship between himself and the landscapes he captured.
