SU Yu-Lan’s works often include calm horizons. The artist has traveled along the edges of Taiwan island as an observer to collect fragments of landscapes and memories. Far Away V portrays a marine vista that stretches far into the distance. The calm ocean and melancholic skies form a linear boundary, while the breakwater is accompanied by the white, frothy waves. The road featured in the foreground, however, is reduced to a fleeting blur. SU Yu-Lan’s work hides a hint of sadness in a serene and beautiful landscape, and uses familiar settings to lead viewers along a journey of revolving memories.
