SU Yu-Lan enjoys traveling and converting what she has observed into artistic creations, using imageries to portray natural and man-made landscapes in the local area. In Films of Landscape Collection 09, the artist recalled the sceneries she had witnessed while driving along the freeway, manifesting her memories of the landscape with an oil painting. A horizontal composition has been employed to divide the canvas into three areas, with highways and levees at the foreground, oceans on the right, plains to the left, and rolling hills in the faraway distance. The entire work is composed of spatial layering and extensions. Black and grayish tones were selected to provide an ethereal lighting effect and create a subtle and hazy atmosphere. SU Yu-Lan has employed fragments of her memories and personal emotions of her travels, elevating her environmental concerns to an art form and using her works as a link tied to every joyous memory.
