Sweltering

HSU Can-Lin’s still life artworks is an extension of his artistic beliefs. Sweltering uses a simple composition and a painting of natural sceneries to present a suspended landscape within the mind. The artwork features a pink sky and a cloud floating past. A low hill covered with bushes and plants is placed at the lower half of the artwork. The plants on top of the hill are realistically portrayed with meticulous brushwork, shrouding a meandering path that winds up the hill slope. HSU Can-Lin’s works incorporate realist and surreal vocabulary, recreating fleeting visions from day dreams and familiar settings to project the sense of loneliness experienced by people living in this present day.
