Grocery shopping serves as the creative inspiration for Dawn. The artist often accompanied his mother to traditional markets to purchase fresh produce and bargain with the stall vendors. Modern lifestyle has replaced this with neat and indistinguishable unit packaging arranged upon refrigerated shelves in shops, taking the option of choice away from the customer. HSU Can-Lin believes that refrigerated packaged food products surrounded in mists have replaced the crowded and passionate exchanges between stall vendors and customers. Similar urban refinements have only served to create distance and isolation between individuals, illustrated by the cold and lonely atmosphere depicted in this composition.
