CHIU Duo starts from the most basic element of painting, tapping into figurative spaces and structures as his source of inspiration. Oblivion is dissected horizontally into black and gray components, and is devoid of any other colors. Fragmented brushstrokes, overlapping black-colored patches, and grays with crisscrossing brushstrokes and drippling lines at the bottom create 2 different emotional states. This abstract visage of black and white seemed to be a figurative manifestation of the artist’s emotional landscape. CHIU Duo employed brushwork and the two colors of black and white to convert details from everyday life into an emotional response depicted in a purely spiritual world.
