DONG Hao-Yun’s works illustrate virtual and tangible worlds that allow the viewers to explore and generate their own interpretations of the tangible and figurative elements. These artworks also reflect the colliding and conflicting forces of emotion and rationality going on in the artist’s mind. Structure Situating – Soul Trace V employed transforming light, shadows, contrast, and color tones to create a space throbbing with rhythm. The picture appears to show a corner of a room, with bright yet confusing brush strokes creating what appear to be a mattress and blankets covering it. A bonsai seems to have been placed at the right side, while a desk with a table lamp seems to be placed on the left. What seems to appear like actual objects are used to generate this intricate yet intriguing composition.
