CHANG Hung-Ming is skilled in using watercolor as a creative media and has continued to develop his unique brand of artistic vocabulary, transforming his experiences and emotional states into a separate artistic world. The Three Layer Tower is composed of three panels arranged from top to bottom. The entire composition is dominated by a massive tower. The world depicted in the artwork is divided into the area within and the area outside the tower. Colossal giants are shown trying to enter the tower in order to invade the tiny people living within. The composition depicts the artist’s inner conflicts when faced with choosing to pursue his ideals or succumbing to realistic demands. By creating this fantasy world, CHANG Hung-Ming attempts to dispel the chains that bind him to the realistic world.
