HSU Ming-Feng is an artist whose forte is print. In his Landscape of the Heart 3 he uses the lines of the wood block itself as his foundation to create a ""face"" and ""lines"" that intertwine to become the actual painting space. This series of works uses a delicate, deep blue palette as the primary theme. Using rubbing, incising, applying paint, scraping and chiseling techniques, the artist creates a ""busy"" spatial structure. At the bottom of the painting there appears to be a lake with quietly rippling water, and the patch of color surrounding it is like a dense forest. The thickness of the layered color and the concave and convex texture of the wood produce a changed pattern from that of the lake. The neat lines and the quiet, reserved color palette communicate the quiet and elegance of the lake and also project a scene inner tranquility.
