Artwork Appreciation
CHEN Yan-Ru’s Little Landscape No.15 is partly based on a section of Zhao Mengfu’s famous painting, Autumn Colors on the Ch'iao and Hua Mountains. Landscape features, trees, and stones formed using ink painting techniques are instead covered with changing textures and brilliant colors. The overlapping and graduating color blocks and dotted lines weave a broken yet integrated visual tapestry. The houses in the scene are also based upon traditional residences from Taiwan. CHEN Yan-Ru uses classical works from the history of art to provide a brand-new reinterpretation with his personal artistic vocabulary, forming links with classical masterpieces while offering new ideas about memories and locations.
