Artwork Appreciation
HUANG Chiu-Yueh mainly employs abstract techniques and the theme of her works is often based upon her experiences growing up in an agricultural household. Sunrise 1/16 expresses HUANG Chiu-Yueh’s background as a girl who grew up in a farming family and her view of the rising sun as it showers the earth with its rays. The entire composition employed a yellow-colored base, allowing different shades and brushstrokes to dance freely across the canvas. Dry brushing was employed to create overlapping marigold, earthy yellow, and milk white patches with flowing and dripping details. Liberal utilization of various brushwork techniques and overlapping of different paints introduced a myriad of changes to a single color tone, allowing viewers to seek innermost experiences from the abstract presentation.
