Artwork Appreciation
HUANG Chiu-Yueh employed eastern brushwork in this abstract work of art, converting observations of external worlds into a personal dialog and emotional journey of life. Between Black and White is composed of distinctively defined layers of overlapping black and white patches, creating a T-shaped assemblage. Dry brush strokes, stone rubs, scratches, and other textures were used to create various layers. Golden blocks and white dots were employed in an orderly manner, crisscrossing and arranged in a way to create a composition of dots, lines, and surfaces that convey a documented record of personal feelings.
