Artwork Appreciation
In his painting titled Sanyi, artist CHEN Ming-De depicts a forested landscape next to highway, doing so with realistic detail. In the painting, Chen layers varying shades of green to portray densely forested hills. In the lower third of the painting, you see a paved road and safety barrier in grayish white, the straight, level highway emphasizing the splendor of the forest. To Chen, painting is a re-creation and distillation of things seen by the eye. In his creative work, he continually explores the differences between reality and imagination, reinterpreting the landscapes of the real world.
