Artwork Appreciation
LIAO Yu-An’s works often depict psychological drama experienced by modern urban dwellers represented using pop and cartoon-like art styles. Isn't It My Turn Today 3 uses repeated floral patterns and images to create a two-dimensional world. The picture shows a character with her face covered by thick hair, slumped over a chair in her personal space as she waits for a response for her online conversation. A puddle of vomit on the floor serves as a metaphor for the anxious and nervous feelings experienced by people waiting vainly for a response. LIAO Yu-An is apt at using twisted, malformed, or paralyzed human figures in order to convey the empty and insecure mental status typical of the E-generation.
