Artwork Appreciation
LIAO Yu-An’s works often depict psychological drama experienced by modern urban dwellers represented using pop and cartoon-like art styles. The Treatment of Migraine 1 uses repeated floral patterns and images to create a two-dimensional world. The person’s head was covered by large, verdant leaves that replaced his original expressions while tiny dots represent the intense, stabbing pain experienced by a person during a migraine. The orderly pattern of fine grids on the person’s body, on the other hand, symbolizes the branding marks by our enthrallment to the digital age. LIAO Yu-An is apt at using twisted, malformed, or paralyzed human figures in order to convey the empty and insecure mental status typical of the E-generation.
