Artwork Appreciation
Etan Pavavalung is an aborigine of the Paiwan tribe and his artworks convey his emotional ties with his native home as well as the vitality and history of the lands. “My Feathers” is a work of engraving and a continuation of the aesthetics style of his people that feature overlapping patterns, textures, sculpting, and colors. The lily is a commonly employed symbol of redemption, resurrection, and the unity and resilience of life. The aboriginal tradition of hunting is based on respect, reverence, mutual dependence, and harmonious coexistence with nature, yet conflicts with the reality of modern times and values. Etan Pavavalung bedecked his people with feathers to bestow on them the glorious crown of life.
