Artwork Appreciation
CHANG Tzu-Ching’s City is composed of different geometric shapes and colors arranged together in a specific manner to depict various types of urban nightscapes. Different color shapes and blocks generate infinite changes to the composition while transforming and condensing the night into geometric abstractions where one can almost identify a brilliant metropolis with skyscrapers and shining neon lights. The dense arrangement of shapes and color blocks generate oppressive visuals while conveying the artist’s excessive stress and self-imposed discipline. The artist regards creation as a baptism of time and mind, and the creative process as a means to release inner feelings and emotions.
