YUAN Goang-Ming’s Dwelling – moment II captured the serenity of the video work titled Dwelling prior to the disconcerting changes. This seemingly normal, small, and finely furnished middle class living room turns out to be an underwater dwelling with numerous bubbles floating about. The carpet and corner of the table flew upwards in response to an implosion of sparks and gases in the center of the room that is about to blossom into a powerful explosion. YUAN Goang-Ming employs Heidegger’s philosophical investigation of human residence, using theatrical construction and destruction to reflect the difficulties, challenges, insecurity, and depression encountered in everyday life.
