Artwork Appreciation
Artist WEN Meng-Yu keeps records of her life in her paintings. She breaks up everyday objects, removes signs of human existence, and reassembles the objects into a collage, showing an unreal scene of new existence.
Playroom is a two-in-one painting, portraying many modes of transportation, with all the details all flattened and transmogrified into sharp lines and deep, bright colors that emphasize the existence of the scene itself. The objects in the painting represent the artist’s relationship with certain people, stating her inner emotions in a metaphorical way.
The artist reconstitutes her personal experiences into a form that she can share with the viewer, providing a simple narration that leads the viewer to experience the rich emotions in the image.
