Artwork Appreciation
LIAO Yu-An’s works are often filled with pop and cartoon elements and symbolize various psychological scenarios experienced in modern individual lives. Failed Strike uses repeated floral colors and patterns to create a two-dimensional space filled with lovely atmosphere. The artwork depicts a pink dinosaur implementing a romantic Kabe-Don with the bird lady. However, the dinosaur happened to be too big and moved too fast, leading to the tragedy shown in the artwork. “Kabe-Don” is currently a popular term. Anthropomorphic animals as well as a humorous analogy are used by the artist as a satirical jab at the odd phenomenon of following trends blindly in the modern society.
