Artwork Appreciation
TSAI Yi-Chieh uses painting to create worlds that do not really exist as she pursues her search for a refuge from reality. Somewhere out there II-03 illustrates an indoor environment with doors and windows that open to an uniform and beauteous scenery of a lake that complements the fine indoor environment. However, the empty room and the deliberately dissected window scenes create a sense of imperfection and incompleteness in the artwork. The artist attempts to show a fleeting sense of well-being in an artificial fantasy, conveying the sense of emptiness and detachment experienced after imagining the beauty of other places.
