Artist Yu Ya-Lan’s creative inspirations come from travel scenery or reading experiences; she retains the beautiful fragments in her memory and expresses them in her works. She does not just record actual scenes, but transforms her memories into an ideal and beautiful wonderland. Her woodblock print, Night Cherry, was inspired by her own experiences of viewing cherry blossoms. Yu Ya-Lan attaches great importance to the accuracy and expressiveness of color, and mixes pigments with gold, silver, and other toners when creating her work. With the night as background, the contrast between light and shadow emphasizes the dramatic tension. Bright moonlight falls on the blossoming cherry, bringing light and hope to the surroundings and creating a mysterious and romantic atmosphere. There is a small boat floating on the shimmering river in the foreground, and the petals of cherry blossoms are flying lightly in the air. This dreamlike scene seems to be frozen at the intoxicating moment when people are focused on their appreciation of cherry blossoms.
