The work Daily Life was created by artist Yu Ya-Lan during the pandemic. Due to the pandemic prevention policy, she had to stay at home for a long time, her pace of life slowed down, and she began to focus on her daily life. Because her creative time was extended, she was able to notice many more details in the creative process. In the center of this print, a woman sits sideways, her face concealed by the potted plant she is holding in her hands. Surrounding her are large leafy plants, like the split-leaf philodendron and staghorn fern. The artist hopes that viewers’ gaze will first focus on the woman and then gradually go out and explore the surroundings. Before making a woodblock reduction print, the artist must first decide on the sequence of images to be superimposed. After each color is printed, the same block is carved further for the next color, from light to dark. Yu Ya-Lan created a gradient effect in the background, hoping that the viewer will detect the relaxed, soft atmosphere.
