Artist Yeh Yu-Jhu’s “House Reconstruction Plan” series is inspired by her own imagination of “home” and “life,” and the series subtitle, “The Memory in the House,” mainly depicts the subtle daily feelings of her childhood, and how she observes herself in her memories. The paintings depict the familiar objects and space of what, for her, represents the “family home.” She will paint these with darker or more realistic colors while the items with personal memories are treated with light colors, thus creating an ethereal atmosphere. The seemingly unreasonable spatial perspective is her foreshadowing, implying that this is a space existing in her dreams or memories. The partially blank, colorless objects create a contrast between virtuality and reality, symbolizing that some memories will disappear over time, but in contrast, the “family home” is indestructible and firmly connects the emotions of all family members.
