The artist Yeh Yu-Jhu’s “Daydream in the House” series can be connected to form a very long work resembling a hand scroll, or they can be viewed independently. This painting continues the scenery of Daydream in the House I. It depicts the strange rocks and potted plants one often sees in Chinese gardens, as well as everyday modern elements like a basketball court and a lifesaver’s chair. She presents images intertwining memory and reality through a composition that features the diffuse perspective of traditional ink painting, so that everything can be viewed freely; it gives the viewer a feeling of fantasy, or of traveling through a different time and space. The artist has reorganized her childhood memories of home, without considering the original size, measurements, or rationality of the objects or spatial transitions. Each work puts different scenes together, as if she were completely at ease roaming among the realms of memory, dream, and reality.
