The work After That tells the story of mankind’s search for hope in vast interstellar space. Three huge greenhouse-like buildings, with elephants, huge plants, and pools inside, stand in a barren expanse of land; tiny human figures look up at the spacecraft gradually ascending over distant mountains, as if placing their last hopes with it. Artist Huang Yen-Hsun used low-color black and white tones and a top-down view while painting. The silver-gray texture of the mountains in the distance and the gray-white earth in the foreground are the result of his first using a putty-like medium and acrylic paint layer by layer, with colors in it, and then using a polishing technique to bring out the color. He colored some parts of the mountains black, creating light and dark, and increasing the overall layering and three-dimensionality. The framed plants and animals symbolize human control over nature, but also imply that this is temporary. It alludes to humans’ constant attempts to control and transform nature, though they can never be above all things.
