作品賞析
The artist Huang Yen-Hsun’s past creations often used huge objects to highlight the theme of human insignificance. However, in this work, Floating, he transformed the scenery of coastal sand dunes blown by the sea breeze and attempted to handle the human insignificance theme with lighter, more clever means. On each of these black sand dunes, set against an endless background, there is a tiny standing white figure, so small that one might not see them at first. The artist applied a thin layer of acrylic paint to torn rice paper in order to create the translucent blue-grey sky. He used thin wavy white lines made with white charcoals and white charcoal pencils to simulate the path blown by the wind, and this also enhanced the breadth and depth of the painting. The vast landscape with small figures is an expression of the “drop in the ocean” theme, a reflection that everyone must eventually float alone to explore the meaning of life.
