Artist Liang Yu-Ning began to grow plants indoors during the pandemic and started a series of plant-themed creations. Plants growing semi-indoors need the assistance of grow lights, and as the bright purple light intruded on artist’s life, his use of colors became more and more vivid. His work Right after It’s Pissed off by Sparkle continued the results of his research on light in an earlier series, so three different techniques, including airbrushing, layering, and accumulating were used at the same time to express light in the painting. Liang used the layering technique to show the shape of fairy wand sparks and add thickness; the airbrushing and accumulating techniques were used to depict the halo around the leaves and changes in the depth of the leaf veins under light. For the artist, the leaves’ halo symbolizes the distress signal sent by the injured plant, with the faint lights representing an invisible energy. The fairy-caused fire in the painting is actually the flame of his imagination of plants.
