Artist Lin Yi- Hsuan’s creative inspiration mainly comes from social phenomena in contemporary life. Through his keen observation and unique perspective, he reveals the true humanity beneath the surface from a few clues easily ignored by the public. His work Poultry Park was inspired by Japanese photographer Kōhei Yoshiyuki’s “Kōen” (Park) series, which recorded the private behavior of couples in Japanese parks at night in the 1970s, as well as the voyeurs lurking inside. Lin Yi-Hsuan believes that the voyeurs’ behavior is very similar to that of people today—deep-diving on the Internet and peeking into other people’s lives. For the past and the present, human beings have always been tamed and fed by their desires, and there is a strongly animalistic quality to this behavior pattern. Therefore, he captured many images of dogs from the Internet, and those of various tangled masses that loom like aliens in the dark, in order to create a contemporary, artificial landscape that is both fantastic and eerie.
