作品賞析
The city is an organism, constantly changing as new buildings rise from the ground and the scenery that once existed gradually disappears. Artist Chou Cheng-Wei, who returned from overseas, felt that Taipei was changing rapidly and that people of different generations remembered it in vastly different ways. Therefore, he wanted to capture the city’s gradually changing appearance through his creations, and began drawing the “Writing Taipei City” series. This work depicts the scene looking towards Zhongxiao East Rd. from an alley next to Affiliated Senior High School of National Taiwan Normal University. Chou Cheng-Wei carefully depicts the actual scenery with meticulous brushwork — but this scenery no longer exists today. Chou used the watercolor smearing effect to make the scenery in the picture change from clear at the center to blurred in the surroundings, creating a sense of yellowing, like that of an old photo, which adds a note of barely-there melancholy to an ordinary street scene.
