Our lives are always surrounded by light sources, so of course they always accompany us and watch our stories. Some of the old-fashioned lamp art designs seem to become more beautiful over time, so the artist Chou Cheng-Wei collects or depicts old lights, lamps, and lanterns at home and on the street and uses them in his series, “A Lamp with a Story.” Chou’s studio used to be located on the top floor of an apartment building in Taipei City, and the incandescent light bulb in the picture was the only light that lit his way home at the time. For the base, he used a composite media technique commonly used in Spain, that is, a professional modeling paste, and painted out the mottled surface of the old mottled wall and balcony to record a moment that was not necessarily glamorously bright but was warm and comfortable.
