Artist Chou Cheng-Wei, who studied in Spain, once worked as a teacher in Macau. Based on his feelings for his hometown, after returning from Macau in 2013, he began to record Taipei’s street scenes with his brush and created the series “Writing Taipei City.” The Taipei he depicts is full of a nostalgic atmosphere of tranquility and elegance, quietly exuding a calm, restrained light. His Reflector Beside Jin-Hua Elementary School depicts the kind of alley scenery he is most familiar with. He recalls that when his father took him to school when he was a child, his father pointed at the reflector next to the school and taught him to use it and pay attention to traffic safety. Now his children also attend the Jin-Hua Elementary School, and the reflector there has become a memory shared with his children. This reflective mirror not only reflects daily life in Taipei, but also the projects of real-life experiences and deep feelings hidden in the scenery.
